Wild Horses: Adored by the Public, but Destroying Water Resources

The link below addresses management and sustainability of forest, forage, water and natural resources. The information is long but very informative. The articles provide information respecting current status of specific areas in Western United States.

Currently people labeled as activists provide loud, incorrect information that portray some facts disproportionally. The example is the mismanagement of the loose, wild and feral horse population in the Western United States which has contributed in a major way to the decrease in perpetual water shed and the regeneration of perennial forage and forest. In the Western United States the problem was hastened with the closing of equine slaughter plants in 2007, which closings were resultant from activist lobbies. Many “unwanted” horses and other equines were turned loose and little or no population management was provided.

Some surveys report there are in excess of 900,000 members of the equine species in Canada and in excess of 300,000 of that horse population is in Alberta. There may be between 4,000 and 30,000 loose, wild and/or feral horses in Alberta. Reportedly there are loose, wild and feral horses in BC, Saskatchewan and other Provinces. The sectors and respective populations involving dairy, beef, hog, feathers and other species are individually trackable and traceable through production and other instruments of reports required. The beef industry is very dependent on lands owned by governments and other organizations for grazing and feed production.

It may be submitted the management of lands owned by governments, municipal, provincial and federal are “over managed” possibly in favor of wildlife. Privately held lands are also suffering from respective restrictions resultant from misleading activist information and the possibility of resultant over management.

There is increasing conversation as to the value and sustainability of available water in Canada.

Are the natural resources of Alberta and Canada going to be subject to the disrespect and inequitable consideration as is witnessed in the United States and reported in the link herewith? www.newsdeeply.com/water/community/2017/09/07/wild-horses-adored-by-the-public-but-destroying-water-resources
