Vesicular Stomatitis in the United States

Please note that due to the current outbreak of Vesicular Stomatitis (VS) in certain states* in the United States, the importation of horses, swine and ruminants is suspended from these

states until further notice.

A few things to note:

  1. The date of declaration by the USDA to Canada was 19 May 2023.

  2. For people transiting VS-affected US states (only when absolutely necessary) – the Supplementary Declaration is only available from a CFIA port veterinarian at an inspected port during CFIA hours of operation, by appointment.

  3. Likewise, any importers that meet the requirements for CFIA pre-approved events must enter Canada through a CFIA inspected port, by appointment.
